According to the survey of Belgium by DAWN (Discipling A Whole Nation), less than half of the administrative districts have any evangelical witness. Although there is full religious freedom it is still difficult to gain a hearing because evangelical Christians are generally viewed with suspicion and regarded by many as belonging to a sect.
On the whole the church feels weak, inadequate and overwhelmed with the task before her. However, in some areas there is a strong vision for church planting and reaching the unreached, and we can praise God for the slow, steady growth over recent years.
On the surface Belgium appears to be far from God, but its people are not satisfied with materialism and are hungry for something more. In 2001 WEC entered Belgium with the aim of establishing a church-planting team in Flanders, and then starting a work in Wallonia in 2003. Although these are small beginnings we have a big God and we are excited to be involved with what He is doing in building His church.
Could you be part of this work, building for the future?
Opportunities exist in practically all areas of ministry. WEC's focus is on church planting, but also seeks to encourage the national church. We are keen to see evangelists, teachers, worshippers, pastors, and encouragers join us. But above all, we are looking for those who are able to work in a team, with a heart for serving God and a deep desire to share the love of Christ.
