Finance Director in the UK

Join our Coventry office staff and head up our UK Finance team. Use your financial expertise to help hundreds of WEC members from the UK and Ireland to reach the unreached here and around the world.

As Finance Director for this Branch you will:
ensure sound financial management of WEC finances in line with best practice for UK and Scotland charities;
liaise with other WEC ministries and branches to support effective financial practice;
manage the annual budget process and monitor budget performance;
give financial reports to our annual UK and Ireland Conference, Branch Council and Board of Trustees;
liaise with WEC's auditors, and oversee banking operations.

As a member of our headquarters staff in Coventry, you will also attend and participate in corporate prayer and worship times, with the opportunity to hear reports from our workers across the world.

Qualities & Gifts Sought

Qualification equivalent to Chartered Accountant/CPA, with relevant experience as a Finance Director or Chief Financial Officer.

You are able to effectively lead and manage a small team, contributing spiritual and moral guidance as well as enthusiasm and integrity. You are able to handle challenges and can make tough decisions, whilst caring for our members and respecting the confidentiality of our supporters.

You have good English fluency and literacy, and cross-cultural communication skills. You also enjoy finding opportunities outside of the workplace to share your Christian faith in the community.

Media

The Times began in 1785 and is the world’s oldest newspaper. The BBC began in 1922 and is the UK’s publicly-funded broadcasting corporation – it is the world’s oldest broadcaster. Literature

The English playwright and poet William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest dramatist of all time. A small selection of other notable writers include: Geoffrey Chaucer, John Bunyan, John Milton, Jane Austen, Charlotte Brontë, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, George Eliot and William Wordsworth. 20th century English writers include HG Wells. Roald Dahl, D H Lawrence, George Orwell, Agatha Christie, J R R Tolkien, C S Lewis and J K Rowling.

Notable Scottish writer’s include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Walter Scott, Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Burns, and more recently Ian Rankin and Iain Banks.

The UK is well known for its popular music. The Beatles are the biggest-selling and most influential band in the history of pop. Other notable British artists include: The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, The Who, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, The Police, Coldplay, Oasis, Robbie Williams, Amy Winehouse and Adele.

Visual arts

Major British artists include John Constable, J M W Turner, L S Lowry. William Morris, Amish Kapoor, Anthony Gormley, Henry Moore, Damien Hirst and David Hockney.  

Film

Notable British directors include: Alfred Hitchcock, David Lean, Christopher Nolan and Ridley Scott. Many British actors have achieved international fame and critical success. 

Science

England and Scotland were leading centres of the Scientific Revolution from the 17th century. The UK led the Industrial Revolution from the 18th century. Notable scientists include Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Francis Crick, James Clerk Maxwell, and Alexander Fleming and Stephen Hawking. Notable engineers include Richard Arkwright, Robert Stephenson, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Michael Faraday, Alexander Graham Bell, John Logie Baird and Alan Turing.  

Sport

Major sports including football, tennis, rugby union, rugby league, golf, boxing, netball, rowing and cricket, originated or were substantially developed in the UK.

Religious worldviews and unreached peoples in the UK

The population of the UK is around 65.4 million.
57% profess to be Christian and of those 7.91% are Evangelical. Other main religions and belief systems include: Islam - 4.1%, Hinduism - 2.8%, Pagan religions - 0.7%, Buddhism - 0.4%, Non-religious - 34.5%.

The UK contains around 105 distinct people groups, of whom 32 are currently unreached with the hope of the gospel.
