English Teacher in Southeast Europe

Do you have a heart or calling to promote reconciliation and hope where it is truly needed? Do you enjoy building relationships over the long term by giving and receiving hospitality, and through learning language and culture?

Are you a native English speaker? Do you have a passion for teaching?

Then come and join our team, using language teaching as a way to connect with people.

As you do so and become part of local community life, your love of Christ will shine out through your actions and words, and you will discover God-ordained opportunities to share more.

Qualities & Gifts Sought

You are a native English speaker with an appropriate qualification for teaching language; or you are willing to work towards such if staying over a year.

You are willing to spend time building relationships with local residents across all ethnicities, in order to learn a challenging Slavic language (all three dialects used by the local community).

You will need to be willing to apply creativity, flexibility and patience, as you work within a challenging, sensitive community, holding hurts, bitterness and resentments.

About Teaching English

Fluency in English provides students with a vital skill. By teaching English as a foreign language you can take opportunities to build relationships with students, which may open doors to share the gospel.

Use your TEFL or TESOL training on a short-term mission experience with WEC. Have an opportunity to travel and experience a new culture. Every year there are opportunities in Brazil and Korea to teach our trainee missionaries.

Here are some stories from Brazil:

Jacquie taught English in Guinea-Bissau on a short term mission with WEC. Read Jacquie's story.

About Southeast Europe

Southeast Europe offers unique opportunities and challenges for mission.

Orthodox Christianity is in decline in this region and the arrival of people from different nations is providing a new context to reach the unreached. WEC aims to respond to these opportunities and challenges, and to mobilise East Europeans to reach the unreached on their own doorstep, as well as to go to new cultures and join our teams around the world.

WEC is currently ministering in Albania, Greece, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and elsewhere in the Balkans. Each team has been involved in outreach and church planting, as well as in community projects and reconciliation, for several years. We have also been recruiting in Eastern Europe especially Poland, Ukraine, Romania, etc.

One team is running a free medical service and children's programmes as well as looking for more ways to reach their community. Another team has a ministry centre and is exploring their options in reaching out to more parts of the neighbouring community. Another small team has an established reconciliation ministry, and there are opportunities among refugees in partnership with established churches.

WEC is prayerfully planning and anticipating reaching out to more new locations. This includes church planting and discipling in more districts in cities and towns not yet reached.

Contact us to explore and pray how you might fit in.
