Mission Mobiliser among Africans in Chad
Inspire churches and individuals to get involved in mission. WEC's Abéché team is located in an area of unreached peoples. The local churches mainly comprise people from other parts of Chad.
Build relationships with these Arabic-speaking African Christians, share with them opportunities they have to serve and help us mobilise them for mission on their doorstep and beyond.
Expect to spend significant time initially in learning local Arabic and gaining relevant local experiences.
Qualities & Gifts Sought
Some previous experience of cross-cultural mission is essential, as is a good working knowledge of French.

About Chad
Chad is a landlocked country in Central Africa. It is bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, Cameroon and Nigeria to the southwest and Niger to the west. It is the fifth largest country in Africa in terms of area.
Chad has several regions: a desert zone in the north, an arid Sahelian belt in the centre and a more fertile Sudanian Savanna zone in the south. Lake Chad, after which the country is named, is the largest wetland in Chad and the second-largest in Africa. The capital N'Djamena is the largest city.
The United Nations' Human Development Index ranks Chad as the seventh poorest country in the world, with 80% of the population living below the poverty line.
At 33%, Chad has one of the lowest literacy rates of Sub-Saharan Africa. Chad's official languages are Arabic and French.

Chad has 141 people groups and half of these are considered unreached (they have yet to hear the good news about of Jesus). 56.6% are professing Muslims, 26% are professing Christians and of those, 7.5% call themselves Evangelical.

WEC in Chad
In Chad there is an open door to serve Christ. WEC has many opportunities to serve people in Jesus' name, through urban outreach, teaching English, working with students, helping the poor, using the media and much more. We work with several unreached peoples including nomads.
There are so many unreached peoples here and, for the moment, a great freedom to work. The team are starting churches where there are none among the peoples of Chad. The time is now!
In 2012, WEC oversaw the translation and printing of the first New Testament in the Chadian dialect of Arabic, continuing WEC’s commitment to translate the scriptures into the languages of unreached people groups. Please pray with us that this NT will be widely read and used.
