Who is needed?

Opinion

1 minute read

I recently read this quote from our founder, C.T. Studd, concerning the type of people who are needed in order to further the work of the mission. He wrote:

Men gripped by a vision (Rev 5:9) – not men interested in a theory. Men apprehended by Christ – not men employed by a mission. Men hungry for a fight – not men gorged with educational schemes. Men who will obey to the uttermost – not men who wish to do what they can.’” – C.T. Studd

Now, this was not an exclusive call to men, rather than women. Even in WEC’s early days, we were as interested in women as in men of this type! And it is worth commenting on the statistic that 60% of the global mission force is female. (So, where are the men?)

The task of mission and the simple gospel message remain unchanged, even if the context has altered radically over the past 100 years. The need is still real and the challenge is still great. As the UK Church plays its part in the worldwide body of Christ, there is still much need for people of the type Studd describes. Perhaps we might couch it in different terms these days, but zeal, confidence in God and bold, outrageous faith are still the hallmarks of the God-chasers and Kingdom-builders.
