A gap year after school or university is a perfect opportunity to explore mission. But any age group up to and including retirees will find it a rewarding experience. Church groups are also welcomed and receive their training collectively.
All sorts of people have done a short-term mission with WEC. Here are some examples:
Thomas, a university graduate, went to Cambodia to teach in a school for two years but ended up staying for three. He has enjoyed the experience so much that he is looking to join WEC long-term.
Lois took early retirement and uses her new found freedom to do a three-week short term placement in East Asia every year.
Joe, a school leaver, joined WEC’s youth department for three months. He was based near London but travelled to Ireland and Scotland for children’s work. He became a team leader at WEC’s youth camp.
Chris and Kay took an short break from their careers to go on a five-week placement to serve among the marginalised in southeast Asia.
Liam left college and, after experiencing a team trip to Italy, signed up for a year working as a PE teacher and dorm helper at Bourofaye Christian School in Senegal. Following that, he completed two years at a missionary training college.
