Mission through media

One of our RW trainers, Christopher Singh, has just returned from training students on two continents.

The courses trained mission workers in how to utilise social media as an effective evangelism tool. Thanks to the digital media age, larger audiences can now be reached more easily, especially in large or strict countries where Christian teaching is not always easily accessible.

Christopher’s training reports from the Bethel Bible College in South India and local churches in Ethiopia have discussed the ways in which learning how to use Youtube and Facebook for outreach has benefited aspiring missionaries.

The Ethiopian churches offered a two week course for people interested in church planting, which taught them different practical techniques for producing video dramatisations of Bible stories. Because promoting Christian content over the radio or TV in Ethiopia is prohibited, Facebook and Youtube or WhatsApp have been very helpful outlets for sharing the content. The students received positive feedback after posting their videos on social media which they found encouraging.

there is plenty of potential in presenting the Gospel using media

The Bethel College in India also demonstrated to its young adult students that social media can be beneficial for Christian outreach.

The Bethel College in India also demonstrated to its young adult students that social media can be beneficial for Christian outreach. After the duration of the course, the students were challenged in their belief that the only way to serve God adequately was by being a Pastor. Christopher was delighted to find that the students realised: “there is a lot more to Christian ministry” and there is plenty of potential in “presenting the Gospel using media, and sharing their stories on social media”.

WEC is currently looking for volunteers to help with their social media and communications work, so if you are interested in using these skills of your own in ministry please get in contact. Alternatively, any Christian can use their own social media channels to promote the Kingdom of God, whether that is through interacting with the official social media pages of different ministries or creating your own faith related posts.
